CLB-3 Concludes Support for Operation Kuleana > United States Marine Corps Flagship > News Display

OKINAWA, JAPAN —

U.S. Marines with Combat Logistics Battalion 3, Combat Logistics Regiment 3, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, operating under Task Force Kuleana, concluded their sustained operations in support of the communities of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam , O’ahu, Hawai’i, March 21, 2022. The Kuleana Task Force was established on December 1, 2021 in response to the Red Hill water contamination crisis affecting residents of residential areas community of JBPHH and the military reserve of Aliamanu.

TF Kuleana provided support services that included the distribution of bulk and bottled water at 6 sites, and 2 sites that supported quick showers and laundries in the field. In total, CLB-3 efforts have supported more than 10,000 households affected by the water contamination crisis.

“When the call came to support JBPHH, I had no doubt in my mind that the Marines and Sailors of the unit would immediately turn to in support of our joint service family,” Lt. Col. Joshua Gregory, Commander. of CLB-3. Effortless coordination between units within MAGTF Hawaii, along with support from our regiment, CLR-3, has led to the success of TF Kuleana. It was an honor to support JBPHH during their time of need and we stand ready to answer any calls for help in the future.

From December 3, 2021 to March 20, 2022, TF Kuleana provided hygiene services totaling 8,828 laundry loads and 6,517 showers to affected JBPHH residents. Additionally, nearly 1,000,000 gallons of bulk and bottled water have been distributed since December 2021.

“The Marines and Sailors of MAGTF units from Hawaii, and as far away as Okinawa, Japan, stepped up in times of crisis and performed admirably,” said Major Victoria Crabbe, Operations Officer of CLB-3. “Their professional dedication made it possible to set up and launch operations less than 24 hours after receiving the warning order, which is an achievement in itself. It was not a one-person or one-department operation, but rather a collective effort that showed what true compassion, MOS skill, and team effort can accomplish.

As of March 18, 2022, Hawaii Department of Health health officials have cleaned up all 19 areas affected by water contamination in Red Hill and declared tap water safe to drink in all residential areas. served by the Navy water supply system.
