DVIDS – News – 6th Marine Corps District Hosts First Ramp! Experience with Mississippi Delta Community College

Tori J. Ross April 1, 2022 2 min read

The ramp! The experienced team and musicians of the US Marine Corps have teamed up to present the first ramp! Experience event at Mississippi Delta Community College in Moorhead, Mississippi, March 10-11, 2022.

“The Ramp! The experience is beneficial because it helps bring the importance of music education back to a once thriving geographic location,” said U.S. Marine Corps Master Sgt. Justin Hauser, 4th Marine Corps District Musician Technical Assistant “The Mississippi Delta has produced some amazing musicians over the years, and it would be an amazing thing to see music grow in schools in the area.”

The ramp! The experience provided students from more than 20 high school and college groups with the opportunity to collaborate and learn together.

“It’s a joy to be able to elevate music education in this region and beyond,” said Cameron Jenkins, a Ramp! Member of the experienced team. “If you look at the logo, it’s a crescendo, and for all musicians, you know crescendo means you start at one volume and gradually increase the volume over time. So that’s what we We try to stand together with local school district students, music teachers, and administrators…and make their voices heard in the community.

The event gave US Marine Corps bandleaders and musicians the opportunity to meet and discuss ways to improve the music program as a whole.

“The ramp! The experience helps bring professionally trained musicians and resources into schools that don’t have much exposure to those resources,” Hauser said. help them improve musically, which helps the school’s programs in the long run.”

During the event, students were divided into groups based on their instrument and received masterclasses led by Navy musicians specializing in that instrument. These lessons gave students the opportunity to ask questions about their specific instrument to then better understand how to improve their techniques when performing music.

“I believe the first ramp! The experiment was very successful,” Hauser said. “With more Marine musicians and perhaps even more time to work with the students, I think we could have an even bigger impact.”
