Capt. Robert Stiles relieved Capt. Steven Stasick as Commanding Officer, Officer in Charge of Construction Mariana Marine Corps (OICC MCM), during a change of command ceremony at Andersen Air Force Base on July 8.
Rear Adm. Dean VanderLey, Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Pacific commander, presided over the ceremony and congratulated Stasick on the accomplishments during his time with OICC MCM.
“One of the things I really liked about Steve was that he was not just focused on the task at hand, but on certain things such as growing the workforce, improved processes and community partnerships,” VanderLey said. “The work you’ve done, Steve, has really set Captain Stiles and the team on the path to success.”
Stasick took command of the OICC MCM in 2020 and was recognized for leading the team in building 22 facilities and completing $890 million in construction of 39 active projects valued at $3.3 billion. dollars at Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz.
“It’s the hardest job I’ve ever had, but it’s the most rewarding job I’ve had,” Stasick said. “As you know, the past few years have been challenging with COVID and logistics and more, but we’ve continued to work closely with our partners to maintain our timelines and keep projects on track, and I couldn’t not be more proud of those relationships.”
VanderLey presented Stasick with the Legion of Merit and applauded his efforts to support the Defense Policy Review Initiative and the relocation of Marines from Okinawa to Guam. The initiative led to the transformation of 563 acres of jungle into a fully developed site for the newly constructed first permanent Marine Corps base in more than 60 years.
Stasick recognized his team for their hard work and dedication to accomplishing the mission, while ensuring projects were on schedule and on budget despite the challenges.
“We experienced COVID delays, H-2B visa delays, and logistical manufacturing delays, but with hard work and creativity, we kept construction on track,” Stasick said. “The next few years are going to be exciting and I couldn’t be prouder of the team we have, and Captain Stiles is the perfect leader to take command to the next level.”
Stasick reports to NAVFAC Pacific in Hawaii as Vice Commander.
Stiles reports to the OICC MCM after serving as the commanding officer of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 1.
“Steve, through your leadership, you’re delivering a very motivated organization and I thank you for that, and I look forward to continuing, in many cases literally, to build on the foundations you’ve established,” Stiles said. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to be here to develop relationships with the community and people of Guam, to partner with our local and international contractors, to meet and work with each of you, and ultimately to build Marine Marianas body.”
