US Marine Corps veteran Navigius “Novi” Hamel Jr. of Riverside dies at 89

Navigius “Novi” Hamel Jr., 89, from Riverside, RI, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022 in Hope Hospice, Providence, RI

Beloved husband of the late Natalie R. (Rose) Hamel

Born January 4, 1933 in East Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Navigius, Sr., & Mary (Mello) Hamel

A Korean veteran, he served in the United States Marine Corps for three years, retiring as a corporal, he was honored with the Navy Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Ribbon .
After Mr. Hamel retired from the military, he worked for American Insulated Wire for thirty-three years, retiring as a foreman.

He was Communicator of Saint Francis Xavier Church in East Providence, RI, choir member, Eucharistic minister. He has served as a CCD teacher at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Providence, RI, Eucharistic Minister and has been a Church Marriage Preparation Instructor and Cameraman for “Watching Our Faith”.

He leaves behind three children, Linda M. Radny of South Attleboro, MA, Lorie A. Hamel of Kent, WA, Natalie Hamel of Riverside, RI, two sisters, Teresia Chase of Winter Park, Florida, Antoinette “Ann” Needham of East Providence , RI, one granddaughter, Shalia Rose Pierce Hamel of Kent, WA. Mr. Hamel was the brother of the late Loretta Hamel,

Her funeral will be on Saturday January 15, 2022 at 7:45 a.m. at the Rebello Funeral Home, 901 Broadway, East Providence, RI, followed by a Christian funeral mass at 9:00 a.m. at Saint Francis Xavier Church. , North Carpenter Street, East Providence, RI

Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Wampanoag Trail, Riverside, RI,

Call hours will be Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Rebello Funeral Home. Masks are compulsory.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of their choice.
